what is the quran? The quran is the religious text or bible of islam, which muslims believe to be a revelation from god. it is considered to be the finest peice of literature in arabic language. Quranic chapters are called suras and verses, ayahs.
what does islam teach?
islam teaches Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all have some beliefs in common. They all believe in one God. Muslims believe that God holds all power and created the universe. They all believe that God determines right and wrong. People are expected to follow God`s word. All of these religions believe God spoke through prophets. Muslims believe they are Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. Christians believe Jesus is the Messiah or Son of God. Muslims believe Muhammad is seen as a prophet and as a good person.
Some Arabs were Nomadic desert herders. They went from oasis to oasis. These people were known as Bedouins. Bedouins lived in tents and ate dried fruits and nuts. They drank the milm of their animals. It was an occasion if they ate meat. The animals were much to valuable.

what was muhammad's message? Muhammad was born in 570 in Mecca. He was raised by his uncle. When he was a teenager, he worked as a caravan leader. Muhammad became a successful merchant. He married and had children. Muhammad was not a happy person, even if he was successful. He felt that the wealthy leaders should return to the old ways. Muhammad believed people should honor their families, be fair in businesses, and help the poor. In 610, Muhammad was visited by the Angel Gabriel. The Angel Gabriel told him to preach Islam. Islam means "Surrendering to the Will of Allah." Muhammad destroyed all the statues of false gods. Muhammad preached that all people were equal. He said that all the rich should share their riches. In Mecca, this vision was of a just society that was powerful. Muhammad was saying that riches were not as important as a good life. When Judgement Day arrived, Muhammad said that God would reward the good people and punish the evil.

what opposition was there to islam? Muhammad convinced the people that his word was true. At first, only his family became Muslims. Soon, many of the lower class people converted. Wealthy leaders and merchants did not like Muhammad`s message. They believed he was trying to take away their power. They beat and tortured his followers. In 622, Muhammad and his followers left Mecca and went to Yathrib, later known as Medina. This journey became known as the Hijrah. Muslims made the year 622 and it began the first year of their new calendar. This city welcomed Muhammad and his follwers. Medina means "the city of the Prophet."

4. Fast- Muslims must not eat from dawn until dusk during the month of Ramadan.
5. Hajj- Muslims must journey to Mecca once in their lifetime if they are able.
The Sunna is the name given to customs based on Muhammad`s words and deeds. With the combination of the Quran and the Sunna, Muslims have guidelines to their daily life
